He is set to walk across the country.
Former rugby player Rory Best has said that he feels more "grateful" than ever for his children's health now that he is involved with Cancer Fund for Children.
Set to take part in Rory’s Miles 2 Mayo this May, the former Ireland captain will walk 300 km across the country to raise money for the expansion of Cancer Fund for Children’s Daisy Lodge.
Daisey Lodge is a therapeutic short break centre for children diagnosed with cancer and their families to stay in. It is set to be the second of its kind and will be built in Cong in Mayo.
Rory raised over €1 million for the charity back in 2021 and will now walk through Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Tipperary, Limerick, Clare, Galway and Mayo.
Rory told
RSVP Live: "It totally makes you realise how lucky you are.
"For some families in Ireland one day everyone is fine - and then the next they get a phone call to say their child has cancer and all of a sudden their lives have changed.
"I am a father, but also a brother and son. No matter what scenario you put yourself into, you can see the struggles from their point of view and it breaks your heart; all you want to do is help".
He and wife Jodie share three children, Ben, Penny and Richie.
Rory first got involved in the charity after retiring from rugby in 2019 as he aimed to use his platform for good and do something "meaningful" with his career.
